Cranes of Hope Project (hands-on)

(The actual program begins at 1:00, but you are invited to join us at 12:30 for a social time during which you can visit the library table, the demo corner, the Show and Share table, and have refreshments.)

Over the past several years many Colleague members have worked with the Cranes of Hope project. Cranes of Hope is a group of cancer survivors, their caregivers and supporters who get together monthly to make Artist Trading Cards for others battling cancer who are in need of a little hope and inspiration. The Colleagues are a perfect group to support this cause!

Join us in this community service project to use our love of calligraphy and art and make unique gift treasures to be given to those in Minnesota going through challenges with all types of cancer.

At the end of our day the Cranes of Hope organization will take the pieces of art we create and distribute them for us.

We will explain the few steps involved in creating a Cranes of Hope card.  Several of us will help everyone get started.  Once you have made your first one—anything you can imagine is a GO!

The Colleagues will supply 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" cards for you to decorate and write on. Also there will be paper scraps, cranes, "jewels", several types of adhesives, and sample words for you to write on the cards.

You decide what tool(s) and colors you want to use.  Keep in mind that the words we letter/write will be small.   Please bring and share:  scissors, pens/pencils/markers/brushes/nibs (Gel, micro, Parallel, including any color, gold or glitter! etc.), ink/paint for pen or brush, your favorite lettering exemplars for reference, washi tape, glue stick or narrow double faced tape, fun labels, embellishments. No need to purchase anything, just bring what you already have and would like to use.
