Instructors: Eve Brown and Jean Heidenreich

With a pencil we will trace lower case alphabet stencils to draw the letter shape/s of your choice on Black Strathmore Artagain paper. Then using Gelly Roll "Moonlight" Pens by Sakura we will use a pointillism technique to outline our letter shape(s) with dots of bright color. Our negative black letter shape(s) will "pop" against the field of colored dots surrounding them.

SUPPLIES: Black pencil and white vinyl eraser; scissors and ruler. Gelly Roll Sakura "Moonlight" pens. Michaels carries these for $14.99 for a set of 10 pen. (Watch for weekly coupons often 40-50% off coupon.)

Experience Pointed Brush Lettering

INSTRUCTOR: Karen Eighmy

One of the most versatile and expressive letter forms, brush lettering has been practiced for centuries by Chinese emperors, Roman artisans, and Madison Avenue ad artists.  We will look at current works from magazines and other print materials, and "play" with various kinds of brushes   Come and learn about all the possibilities you have! Students will receive 2 exemplar alphabets that can be used to create posters, cards, logos, and more.

SUPPLIES: Bond paper layout pad, slanted surface if desired, ink, small water jar for rinsing the ink out of brush, pencil, T-square and any pointed brushes you have (hair, synthetic, Pitt markers or Pentel color brushes). If you like to work with watercolors, bring those and your mixing tray. Karen will furnish a variety of brushes to try.

The Steadfast Pocket Book

Join us to create two eight-page, self-covered books with origami sleeves! We will fold flexible Arches Text Wove paper and letter quotes, resulting in an inspirational companion for you or a dear friend. This workshop is for all who enjoy experimenting and being absorbed with lovely letters, folding fantasies, and meaningful messages.

SUPPLIES: Bone folder (or kitchen spoon) and glue stick (Do not purchase; we can share.); 16 favorite quotes.

Provided: 2 pieces of 8.5” x 11” Arches Text Wove paper, one pen, a list of quotes.

NOTE: You are welcome to bring 1-2 additional sheets of 8.5” x 11” paper and any pens—supplies you’ve been longing to use. Because the dimensions of the book pages are 2 3/4” wide by 4 1/4”, bring pens suitable for this small page size.  It’s best to use pens that are quick and easy to use, with inks that are permanent and waterproof.
