(online)
Maker University is a mini-online calligraphy conference. It starts off with a Friday evening presentation followed by an entire day where members of The Colleagues share their knowledge and expertise on a variety of calligraphy-related topics. Hands-on, lecture, sharing, Q&A; all methods of exploring calligraphy and related arts will abound!
This is an entirely online event

Exploring the World of Ruling & Folded Pens
Level: Intermediate to Advanced*
Do you ever wonder what those funky ruling and folded pens do? Come join me to find out! We will explore a variety of pens including my favorite, the Handwritmic. We’ll try them with different inks and papers just to see what happens.
You will learn how the pens respond to hand and arm movements as we try different fluids and a variety of papers. We will spend quite a bit of time doing exercises in combinations. Slow/fast. Short/long. Push/pull.
Once students have had an opportunity to spend time making basic strokes, we will move into words and small phrases.
* Beginners have taken this class and done well with it. However, since they don’t have a repertoire of hands under their belt, they can only go so far with the more difficult exercises. I like to leave it up to each guild as to whether they want to offer this to beginners.
