FELICIA FORDER – BIBLIOPHILE AND COLLEAGUES LIBRARIAN
Felicia carried well-travelled books in her car on most third Saturdays of the month. They were destined to be unpacked on arrival and carefully arrayed on our Colleagues library table. To know Felicia was to know a book lover – to know what a book lover sounded like by her conversation. She liked to talk about books, of course. I remember her at our program meetings, bundled up in winter, having driven all the way from Aitken, MN, wheeling her box of books into Jackman Hall at Plymouth Congregational Church.
When the Saint John’s Bible was finally published, Felicia, with her previous B. Dalton/Barnes & Noble book buyer experience, was the catalyst who made it possible for many of us to purchase our volumes. During that period of time, Felicia not only toted our library, but also brought brand new volumes of the Saint John’s Bible. I have the whole set, and Felicia made my ownership possible.
Felicia took an interest in many things – medieval history – so much so that she became a dedicated member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, taking on the persona of a medieval nun, who no doubt did calligraphy! Felicia was an accomplished gardener as well. There is an energy that exists in calligraphy guilds – a kind of energetic DNA. We all vibrate with it, like Felicia, sharing a common love of letters, books, history and so many things. Felicia gifted us with her generosity as a friend and colleague over the years. She invested herself in the life of our guild. Thanks, Felicia!
