The Power of The Pencil

In anticipation of our workshop this weekend taught by Jean Formo, member Anne Kaese will present a talk on the history and impact of this most powerful tool: The Pencil.

We will also look at the history of some of the other tools in our calligraphy toolkit and their fascinating histories.

Member Programs are free for members. However, members are encouraged to bring guests to our in person programs who can attend one free program in a season.

a little about anne

An artist, communicator, educator, medievalist, learner and wonderer – could be wanderer too

I started doing calligraphy when I was twelve. As a young adult, I took formal classes and have since had the privilege of studying with some wonderful teachers from England, the US, Europe and Africa.

My art work now focuses on lettering, color, illumination, fine detail painting and related aspects of calligraphy and watercolor painting.

I have a busy teaching schedule in the area as well as presenting workshops out of town and on Zoom. Commissions and other work occupy the rest of my work time too.

I am active in many non-profits for art and music in the area, and volunteer my services in the community where you will often find me doing calligraphy bookmarks at events at schools or in the community.
